Our Story

Nathan and I met at Ferry Farm Baptist Church in Fredericksburg, Virginia during our junior year of college. FFBC was Nathan’s home church and he remained active during his time at Virginia Commonwealth University. I became involved there in the Fall of 2002 while at Mary Washington College.

His mom was one of the first people I met, and in the first 10 seconds of talking, she informed me that she had a son my age. I was not interested in being set up. A few months went by and I finally put Nathan’s face with the son I heard so much about. My friends thought we should date, so we started calling him “Ferry Farm Cutie.”

Because we were both pretty shy, we never talked to each other, save a mumbled “hi” in the hallway after church. Finally during our senior year, we started having short conversations about graduate school and where we were headed after college. Part of me wanted something to develop, but the realistic side of me tried to accept that we would probably go our separate ways after graduating.

However, in April of 2004, Nathan asked if I’d like to go out sometime. Our first date was spent walking around downtown Fredericksburg on a Sunday afternoon.

After our date, I called my mom and told her “I could marry this guy…”, to which she replied, “Let’s have a second date first…” :)

We spent a lot of time together in the following days and weeks, and by June 2004, after seven weeks of dating, we were engaged to be married.  Our wedding was on December 18, 2004.

Now, 3.5 years later, we are expecting our first child in early 2009!
